11. A Guide to Mindfulness This December
As December begins, the world seems to shift into overdrive. Between the parties, gift lists, family gatherings, and endless errands, the season can feel like a whirlwind. While there's a magical energy to the month, it's easy to get swept up in it all, leaving us feeling stressed rather than joyful.
So I'm here in your inbox today with a reminder to stick with your mindfulness practices this month. When it feels like the world is spinning faster than usual, returning to your calm space in the middle of the December buzz will bring back the joy!
Here are some ideas to keep us grounded and intentional this season.
1. Anchor to Your Non-Negotiables
Let's start with the basics: those small rituals or habits that we know bring us peace. Maybe it's a quick ten-minute morning meditation, a few minutes of journaling, or a quiet cup of tea before bed. Whatever your grounding practices are, try to keep these as your non-negotiables.
If you're still building a mindfulness routine, that's okay too! It might look like taking a few deep breaths before you head out the door, or pausing to tune in with your senses when you're stuck in traffic. Mindfulness isn't about having a perfect practice; it's about finding small moments of calm, no matter where we are.
2. Set Gentle Boundaries & Remember: It's Okay to Say No
This time of year comes with many "shoulds"—and not all of them truly fulfill us. If you feel overwhelmed by commitments, remember that you can say no to things that don't feel right. Consider what traditions, events and people bring you joy and which obligations might drain your energy. Setting gentle boundaries helps you preserve time and energy to enjoy the season without burning out.
3. Reflect on the Year
December is a perfect time for reflection. Taking time on a Sunday afternoon in December to journal about the year's highlights, challenges, and lessons is the perfect way to close the year and step into the new one with clarity.
Journal Prompts
What am I most proud of this year?
How did I change and grow?
What were my biggest challenges?
What were my happiest moments?
What was my biggest lesson?
So this December, let's hold onto whatever brings us back to calm, and remember that our peace is worth prioritising - no matter how busy life becomes. We don't have to do it perfectly; it's about making small choices that help us stay present and peaceful.
If any of this resonates with you, I'd love to hear about the small changes you're making this season. Sometimes, sharing with others keeps us all motivated. Let's move through this month mindfully, together!
With love,
